Summary of recent changes. With the release of Gluten Safety v3.0, the Apps are offered in two tiers: a free, ad-supported tier and an Ad-Free Premium subscription ($2.99/month). This update adds disclosures about Google AdMob (our advertising provider), user consent for advertising (Google User Messaging Platform in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), and App Tracking Transparency on iOS.

Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies to the following mobile applications operated by SafeMom (“we,” “our,” or “us”), based in New York, USA:

• Gluten Safe — helps users identify whether products contain gluten by analyzing product images.
• EZ Vegan — helps users identify whether products are vegan-friendly by analyzing product images and ingredients.

It also applies to our website located at glutensafe.io. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Product Images. When you use our apps to check products, you upload images that are sent to OpenAI’s API for analysis. These images are processed to identify the product and its ingredients but are not stored permanently on our servers.

• Gluten Safe — barcode scans, product searches, restaurant lookups.
• EZ Vegan — product ingredient scans and vegan safety analysis.

Information Collected Automatically

• Purchase information — when you subscribe to premium features, we collect transaction data necessary to process and manage your subscription through Adapty.
• Device information — device type, operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers.
• Usage data — information about how you interact with our apps, including features used, frequency of use, and performance data.
• Analytics data — AppsFlyer and Facebook SDK analytics to understand app performance and improve user experience.

Information from Third Parties

We use the following third-party services that may collect information:

• Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK) — serves advertisements in the free tier of the Apps. Google may collect device information, mobile advertising identifiers, approximate location, and ad-interaction data.
• Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — collects and stores your advertising consent choice in applicable regions (EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland).
• Facebook SDK — advertising and analytics.
• AppsFlyer — attribution and analytics.
• Adapty — subscription management, receipt validation, and payment processing.
• OpenAI — image analysis and ingredient detection.

• To provide product analysis through image processing (gluten detection in Gluten Safe, vegan safety analysis in EZ Vegan).

Advertising

Free ad-supported tier and Ad-Free Premium

Gluten Safety is offered in two tiers:

• Free (ad-supported). Default experience for all users. Advertisements are shown through Google AdMob.
• Ad-Free Premium. A paid subscription priced at $2.99/month. Users on this tier do not see third-party advertisements in the Apps. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google and managed through Adapty.

You can upgrade, restore, or cancel your Ad-Free Premium subscription from within the Apps or through your Apple or Google account subscription settings.

Advertising provider

In the free tier, advertisements are served by Google AdMob, Google’s mobile ad network. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, mobile advertising identifiers, and similar technologies to serve and measure advertisements. We do not share personally identifiable information with Google AdMob or advertising partners.

Ad content rating

All advertisements served in Gluten Safety are configured at a G (General Audiences) or PG (Parental Guidance) content rating so that the Apps remain suitable for families who use them for children with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

Your advertising consent (EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland)

Users located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland are presented with a consent form via Google’s User Messaging Platform before any advertisements are served. You may withdraw or change your consent at any time through the consent settings in the Apps.

App Tracking Transparency (iOS 14.5+)

On iOS 14.5 and later, the Apps will request your permission to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites (App Tracking Transparency). If you decline, you will still see advertisements, but they will not be personalized based on cross-app tracking.

Limit ad tracking or opt out of personalized ads

• iOS — Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Allow Apps to Request to Track (toggle off). You may also reset or limit Apple’s advertising identifier in Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising.
• Android — Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization. You may also reset or delete your Advertising ID from the same screen.

Data Retention

• Product images — not permanently stored by us; handled per OpenAI’s data retention policies.
• Usage and analytics data — retained as long as necessary to provide services and improve our apps.
• Subscription data — retained for the duration of your subscription and as required for tax and legal purposes.

International Data Transfers

We serve users internationally. Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using our apps, you consent to such transfers. We take appropriate measures to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
